Self-Education:
Learning about SOPA and PIPA

Wikipedia battles SOPA and PIPAHave you gone online today? Perhaps you are a frequent visitor of Wikipedia like I am, or maybe you're a news junkie and find yourself on Reddit more than you should. Tried any searches on Google? Are you a blogger on WordPress.com? An avid gamer who reads Destructoid? Want to post an ad on Craigstlist? Maybe you just want to satisfy your stupid cat video fix on icanhascheezburger.com. Well, you're out of luck. And you've noticed, right? All these sites are censoring themselves as their way of fighting back against SOPA (Stop Online Piracy Act) and PIPA (Protect IP Act). More than anything… I’m just so impressed with companies like Google and Wikipedia for taking such a strong stand and spreading awareness yesterday. 4.5 Million people signed Google’s anti-SOPA petition and Twitter counted 2.4 million anti-SOPA tweets. In one day! That’s an incredible testament to the power of social media and the internet in general.

Steve and I were talking yesterday, and he made a great point. Sure, Google censoring their logo was their way of showing support, but wouldn’t it have been stronger if they censored their entire site? Imagine the effect THAT would have had on internet-users.
